For tweens and teens, the Justin Bieber concert is the hottest ticket in town but one young Calgarian is willing to part with her seats as long as the proceeds from selling the tickets go to a good cause.

Shortly after Justin Bieber's October 12th concert at the Scotiabank Saddledome was announced, 12-year-old Denika Hartwick's dad came home with a pair of tickets to the sold our show.  Denika decided the tickets could be put to better use.

“Lots of people have tried to buy them off me,” says Denika’s father, David Hartwick.

Denika decided she wanted to use her unwanted tickets to make a difference in the lives of others.

“I wanted to do something special, and my dad thought it would be a good idea if we donated to charity,” explains Denika. “He asked on Facebook and Twitter and they were all suggesting ‘Brown Bagging it for Calgary Kids.”

Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids’ is a charity that makes 3,000 school lunches each day and distributes them Calgary children in need.

“I didn't realize there were that many kids in our community that didn't have lunch,” says Denika.  “I thought ‘maybe one or two’ but there were a lot more than that.”

“It felt right helping them.”

As Denika learned more about the charity, she decided she wanted to get more involved.  Denika ended up donating not just her tickets, but her time.

“It felt nice to help and I was the youngest person there so like I said it was kids helping kids.”

Parting with her Bieber tickets wasn't exactly painful for Denika, who says she’s more of a Taylor Swift fan.

“Everyone at my school just adores him but I can't stand him,” says Denika.  “It was kind of fun rubbing it in their face saying you can't have the tickets unless you donate $1,000 to this charity.”

Even though Denika's having some fun with her anti-Bieber fever, her dad says her mission to make money and raise awareness for the charity is sincere.

“That's the big thing, just making people aware and even a 12-year-old can do that,” says David Hartwick.

The deadline to bid on Denika’s unwanted Bieber tickets is October 7.  To bid, send an email to kidshelpingkidscalgary@shaw.ca
