Calgary will play host to the 45th annual JUNO Awards in April and on Tuesday The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced the nominations at a media conference in Toronto.

The JUNO Awards recognize excellence in the Canadian music industry and will be held at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday, April 3.

Calgary last hosted the awards in 2008 and this year a total of 41 categories are being honoured.

A number of celebrities read the nominations via live video feed and Calgary Hip Hop Artist, Transit, put on a special performance for the crowd.

As expected, international chart-toppers Drake, Justin Bieber and the Weeknd dominated the nominations.

The Weeknd received six nominations including JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.
 
Drake and Justin Bieber garnered five nods each and both are nominated for JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year. Drake also received a nomination for Rap Recording of the Year and Bieber was nominated for Pop Album of the Year.
 
Alessia Cara was nominated for JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year and Shawn Mendes was nominated for JUNO Fan Choice, Album of the Year, Artist for the Year and Pop Album of the Year.

JUNO Week runs from March 28 – April 3 and The 2016 JUNO Awards show will be broadcast live on CTV.
