Although the national unemployment rate is going down, Alberta’s unemployment rate has hit a new high; one the province hasn’t seen in over 20 years.

Statistics Canada says Alberta’s unemployment is now at nine percent, the highest it’s ever been since July 1994.

The agency says Canada’s rate dropped two-tenths of a percent and now sits at 6.8 percent.

The report says the market added 19,400 part-time jobs last month and shed 8,700 full-time positions.

Compared with November 2015, Canada gained 183,200 jobs overall for an increase of 0.1 per cent -- but over that period full-time work fell by 30,500 positions, while the part-time category piled up an additional 213,700 jobs.

In November, Alberta lost 13,000 full-time and part-time positions.

In comparison to last year, the province only added 30,000 jobs while losing 52,000.
