A new poll shows many Albertans oppose Chinese investment in the Alberta oil-patch.

The survey, conducted by the China Institute at the University of Alberta, shows that 64-percent of Albertans oppose full Chinese ownership of Canadian companies with just 15-percent saying it’s acceptable.

54-percent of respondents oppose any investment at all in Alberta’s energy companies by Chinese state-owned companies.  This comes as the Harper government consider whether to approve a proposed takeover of Calgary-based Nexon by CNOOC, a Chinese company.

Ottawa has said that public opinion will be a fact in any decision it makes.
