Police and fire crews responded to an explosion in the northwest community of Arbour Lake.  The explosion happened late Friday morning.

Manhole covers were sent flying through the air by the force of the blast.

More than 100 homes were evacuated near the intersection of  Arbour Lake Dr. and Arbour Crest Rd. N.W.

According to Brian Mcasey of the Calgary Fire Department, the explosion was caused by a product in the sanitation sewer.

Residents are being allowed to return to their homes after consulting Calgary Fire at the Arbour Lake Community Centre.

No one was injured in the blast.
