Calgary fire crews are being kept busy Wednesday morning following a series of small fires that broke out in the northwest.

Officials say they first started getting calls, mainly consisting of small blazes set in garbage and recycling bins, at just before 4 a.m.

In all of the calls, CFD Battalion Chief Fred Rogi said that crews needed to deal with multiple fires in each location.

He says that some of the fires came close to some garages in the neighbourhoods, but crews were able to put them out before they spread.

Arson investigators have been called to investigate the fires and Calgary Police, along with K9 units, have been brought in to look for anyone in the area.
