The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has launched an investigation into a Sunday night RCMP response in Red Deer that left a suspect injured.

According to ASIRT, RCMP officers were called to an apartment building in downtown Red Deer shortly after 7:00 p.m. following reports of an armed man believed to be suicidal.

Three RCMP members entered the building and located the 28-year-old suspect on the second floor. A confrontation occurred and, according to RCMP, the unidentified suspect was shot in order to ensure the safety of the public.

The injured man was transported to hospital in stable condition for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot wound. No other injuries have been reported.
