The suspect in a Friday morning domestic dispute call in Medicine Hat led officers on a chase which spanned highways and rural roads and ended in a fatal collision.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of a domestic dispute at a residence in Medicine Hat. Prior to police arrival, a vehicle was seen fleeing from the home, and members of the Medicine Hat Police Service pursued the vehicle.

The vehicle left Medicine Hat city limits and RCMP officers took over the pursuit of the suspect.

According to EMS officials, at approximately noon, a collision involving a semi-truck and a car occurred on Range Road 884, between Township Roads 172 and 180, near the town of Redcliff.

One patient was transported by ambulance to hospital in Medicine Hat with non-life threatening injuries.

STARS was dispatched to the crash scene but the air transport request was later cancelled. The reason for the cancellation has not been confirmed.

Sources confirm the collision claimed the life of a man and a woman.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and the possibility police officers may have been involved in the incident.
