A 10-month-old baby boy was reunited with his family after someone stole the vehicle he was in from outside a southeast store.

Police were called to the 10000 block of Macleod Trail SE at about 5:45 p.m. for reports that a vehicle was stolen with a baby inside.

The child's mother was inside a nearby store and her GMC Yukon was left running with the doors unlocked.

The suspect walked up to the vehicle and drove off with the child in his car seat in the back.

Police recovered the vehicle at about 6:10 p.m., in the 9800 block of Horton Road SW and say the offender flagged down a passerby and asked them to call 911.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and the baby was checked out by EMS as a precaution and was not harmed in the incident.

The offender was arrested at the scene and police say charges are pending.

Police are reminding the public not to leave a vehicle with a child inside unattended for any reason, especially if the vehicle is running.
