The man who was the victim of a vicious beating earlier this year has died in hospital on Wednesday.
John Herrera, 49, was brutally assaulted in the 1500 block of 6 St. S.W. at about 11:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.
Police believe he was returning home from buying groceries when he was attacked.
Herrera has been in a coma in hospital for months.
Garrett Smith, 26, Jarod Henry, 22, and Chantelle Tiffany, 27 are all charged with attempted murder in connection to the assault.
The three were originally charged with aggravated assault but those charges were later upgraded.
The Homicide Unit will be consulting with the Crown to talk about upgrading the charges in this case.
Herrera is Calgary's 10th homicide of the year.
