Friends of 27-year-old Trevor Sexsmith are mourrning the loss of the 'awesome kid' who was 'much larger than life'.

According to Parks Canada, two men, both in their 20s, attempted to ascend Mount Victoria on Sunday morning. The pair, veteran skiers, encountered strong winds and poor conditions and a decision was made to turn back.  During their descent, a slide occurred catching one of the skiers.

The companion of the skier caught in the avalanche made his way to the viewpoint above Plain of Six Glaciers tea house to seek help. At 10:00 a.m., Parks Canada was notified of the missing skier but the strong wind inhibited crews from attempting an aerial recovery.

Early Monday morning, the skier's body was recovered following a search that lasted less than an hour.

Friends identify the deceased as Trevor Sexsmith of Golden, B.C.

"He skied some of the biggest lines in the Canadian Rockies," James Blackhall, a skiing friend of Sexsmith's told CTV Calgary. "I mean even guides of 40 years respect him a ton."

Blackhall says Sexsmith had an engineering degree but chose to spend his life in the mountatins to pursue his passion for skiing and adventure.
