Calgarians and their dogs are invited to celebrate and meet a number of working dogs on Saturday during a pooch friendly event in the city’s northwest.

On September 20, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., the Bowmont Off-Leash Park, located at the intersection of 85 St. and Bearspaw Rd. N.W. (south of the railway tracks), will host some of southern Alberta’s finest working canines and their handlers, including members of the following organizations:

  • Calgary Police Service
  • Calgary Fire Department
  • Animal & Bylaw Services
  • Calgary Search & Rescue Association
  • PADS Calgary
  • PALS (Pet Access League Society)
  • Canada Border Services Agency
  • RCMP Police Dog Services

Service dogs will demonstrate their skills and handlers will be available to answer questions about training. Guests will have the opportunity to be photographed with the dogs.

In addition to the working dogs, the event will include:

  • Local celebrities, dignitaries and special guests
  • Mascots
  • City of Calgary Parks representatives
  • Certified Professional Dog Trainers
  • A Walks ‘n Wags pet first aid booth
  • Door prizes

The event is being hosted by the Animal & Bylaw Services Off-Leash Ambassador Program which aims to educate Calgary dog owners on responsible pet ownership and bylaws which impact off-leash parks.

Animal & Bylaw Services is recruiting volunteers to serve as ambassadors as it looks to expand the program to all quadrants of the city.
