Every morning just after 7 am, the principal at Penbrooke Meadows Elementary School in southeast Calgary, makes breakfast for some of his students.

Michael Krawchuk, or Mr. K. to his students says he would rather be making breakfast for kids than spending time at his desk.

Mr. K. says “this is a great way for me to see the kids….it’s a great way to get the ship sailing smoothly at the beginning of the day.”

Approximately 30 students show up each day for breakfast.  It’s sponsored by the charity Breakfast for Learning.

The students who come for breakfast say they skip breakfast at home because their parents often have to rush off to work.

The Breakfast for Learning not only offers a healthy meal, but a safe place for the students while they wait for school to start.

One little boy says “food can get your tummy not rumbling and it can get your brain smarter for reading”.
