Calgarians were busy exploring our roots on Heritage Day.

Heritage Park is the logical stop for many and communication specialist Barb Munro says, “We represent Western Canadian heritage and culture and I think people come here to reconnect with that.”

It’ll be a busy day at the park with between 5 and 6 thousand visitors.

Others stopped by Fort Calgary to tour the barracks and gardens as they learned more about the history of the area.

“This is the place where our city actually began and I think that’s really unique and rare to have these family friendly activities and ways of engaging people with their own history,” says Troy Patenaude the manager of visitor experiences at Fort Calgary.

Heritage Day also shines a spotlight on Calgary’s ethnicity.

Olympic Plaza served as the backdrop for 38 groups sharing their dances, music and songs as they try to preserve and promote the various cultures that make Calgary great.
