Food Banks across the country are enjoying a boost from Calgary-based eatery Edo Japan, which announced the results of its Christmas charity campaign on Thursday.

Representatives made the announcement as the company presented a cheque for just $19,000 to the Calgary Food Bank.

The money for the donations was gathered through the restaurant’s sale of spring rolls over the Christmas season, a popular item among their customers, officials say.

“A lot of our customers love our spring rolls anyway, but instead of buying one, lots of times they will buy two during this promotion, so they are great supporters of this initiative,” said Tom Donaldson with Edo Japan.

The money will be funneled directly towards the Food Bank’s “Weekends and More” program, which provides healthy food for kids at risk to take home on the weekend.

According to data from the Food Bank, 41 percent of clients are children, which is five percent higher than the national average.
