A unique fundraiser for foodies is taking place in Calgary on Monday night featuring four fine chefs and the freshest ingredients from Grow Calgary.

Market Calgary is hosting Fresh! Calgary’s Freshest Meal on Monday evening and all money raised goes to help Grow Calgary, which provides fresh food to local food banks.

“We were excited to do this dinner for sure. We’ve been excited for a while to show what we can do with these dishes and with this food that we’re able to grab,” said Sean MacDonald, Co-Executive Chef, Market Eatery.

“Seeing vegetables in their raw state and being able to pick them like this, it’s really cool and selecting exactly what we want, as a chef that’s unreal,” said Alex Edmonson, Co-Executive Chef, Market Eatery.

“It’s absolutely amazing. I really enjoy cooking, I’m not a great chef, but I just enjoy the process and to be able to take it to some people who really are passionate about it and can really do some incredibly creative things, it’s the best to see our vegetables, be able to kind of give into pros,” said Jack Goodwin, from Grow Calgary.

The four course dinner is made from Grow Calgary’s farm produce and the collaborating chefs were in the garden early in the morning gathering ingredients for their dishes.

“I love learning about new vegetables, new produce, so seeing things like mustard flowers, and radish beans, I’ve never seen these things before and it makes me want to create new things,” said Edmonson.

“We had a plan about what we were going to do and then we came here and saw what we were working with because some of the stuff got wrecked with the frost, so we came in and saw what we could use and went back and jotted down some notes and came up with what we're going to do tonight and planned it out that way,” said MacDonald.

Market Eatery seats about 70 and the event has been sold out for weeks.

Last year, the event raised $6000 for the charity.
