A four-year-old Calgary girl died after being hit by a vehicle while skateboarding in an RV park in Parksville on Vancouver Island.

The girl had been riding a skateboard on her stomach when she veered into the path of a slow moving SUV on Wednesday, August 17, 2016.

“Right as the vehicle was parking, she lost control and went under the front tire of the vehicle,” said Cpl. Jesse Foreman , Oceanside RCMP. “It all happened at a very slow speed, but obviously with a young girl on a skateboard, pinned underneath the tire, it was tragic in the end.”

It happened in front of a group of horrified witnesses, and an off-duty doctor was one of the first to rush to her aid. Paramedics then transported her to a nearby truck weigh scale for pickup by air ambulance, but she died just before being boarded, about one hour after the crash.

RCMP say no charges are being considered against the driver or anyone else.

No name has been released.
