The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is concerned that members of Calgary City Council are in line for a sizable salary bump - at the same time they're bringing in a property tax increase.

The pay for councillors will rise to just over 111-thousand dollars, making their base salary the highest in Canada.   The increase, about three and a half percent, is automatic.  It is based on a formula developed by an independent commission, and adopted by council last year.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says it's happy the tax-free portion of salaries has been removed, and that an outside body is now deciding council's pay.  But feels it doesn't look good when taxpayers are being asked to pay five and a half percent more in property taxes.
