Authorities have shuttered a home in northeast Calgary due to concerns of high drug activity.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) team conducted an investigation on 475 Huntborne Way N.E. and determined the home would be shut down, effective July 7.

According to their investigation, the home was a hub of drug activity and was the source of 20 drug complaints in the past year.

Officials say the home will be shut down and the tenants barred from entering for a period of 90 days.

Since October 2008, SCAN has received more than 2,098 complaints about problem properties province-wide. Sixteen closures have taken place in the Calgary area.

Albertans who suspect illegal activity is occurring at a property in their neighbourhood can contact SCAN online at www.alert-ab.ca/scan or toll-free at 1-866-960-SCAN (7226). All complaints are confidential. Residents are reminded never to investigate suspected problem properties on their own.
