A Calgary home has set a new record after it sold for more than $10-mililon.

"I think it's a really positive boost at a time when things were getting stronger anyway," says Gary Cronin from Remax Realty.

The home was built by former Calgary Flames goaltender Mike Vernon and listed in May for $10.5-million. Less than three months later it sold for $10.3-million.

The 12,700 square foot house in Elbow Park is on the river just downstream from Stanley Park.

It features six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a wine room, a children's lounge and a hockey rink.

Vernon's realtors say, despite the economy, they never had any doubt it would sell for close to its list price.

"There is a lot of wealth in Calgary and, with property of this stature, people would take notice of it and be excited and step up to the plate," says Donna Rooney.

Ronney says the home generated a lot of interest while on the market and had 12 prospective buyers and two serious offers.

The Calgary Real Estate Board says this sale sends a strong message that Calgary's real estate market is healthy.

"I think the market will continue to strengthen in the next few years and you'll see that trend continue," says Cronin.

So far this year, more than 165 single-family homes in Calgary have sold for over $1-million.
