A Calgary Liberal candidate in the federal election campaign has stepped down over comments she made on social media a few years ago.

Ala Buzreba, who was running in the riding of Calgary-Nose Hill, has apologized for a series of tweets that she sent a number of years ago. Buzreba was even forgiven by party leader Justin Trudeau.

However, she says she is stepping down as a result of the comments.

The comments were unearthed during the campaign, with one telling a person that Buzreba deemed racist to ‘go blow your brains out’.

There is no word on who will take her place in the race.
