The driver of a Dodge Ram truck faces three charges related to impaired driving in connection to a New Year's Day crash which sent three people to hospital.

At about 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the scene of a crash on Metis Trail just south of Country Hills Blvd. N.E.

According to police, a 2010 Dodge Ram was travelling southbound on Metis Trail when it crossed the centre line and collided with three northbound vehicles.

The driver of a 2011 BMW 328XI, a 19-year-old male, was rushed from the scene in critical, life-threatening condition. His passenger, an 18-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance.

A pregnant woman, in her twenties, was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Her condition is described as stable.

36-year-old Kulwinder Singh Chochan, the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup truck, was taken into police custody.

Chcochan faces charges of:

  • Impaired driving
  • Impaired driving over 0.08
  • Impaired driving causing injury

Police continue to investigate.
