A Calgary man was sentenced to nine years in jail on Friday for sexually abusing his daughter, giving her marijuana and making pornographic videos of her.

The man pleaded guilty earlier to sexually assaulting his daughter from the time she was 11 until she was 14.

He also admitted to charges of possessing and making child porn and administering a noxious substance to aid him in his crimes.

Provincial Court Judge Sharon Van de Veen said the sentence was warranted and that there were aggravating factors that justified the harsh sentence.

The defense lobbied for a five to six year prison term.
