Police are now investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted in northwest Calgary late Tuesday night.

At about 10:45 p.m., a woman had gotten off a Calgary Transit bus at the intersection of Sandstone Drive and Berkshire Boulevard N.W. when a man approached her.

He began to speak to her, but the woman tried to leave.

At that point, the man attacked her, knocked her to the ground and then attempted to sexually assault her.

“She was assaulted and suffered some injuries to her face,” said Acting S/Sgt. Sean Chartrand.

Another bus arrived at the scene, causing the man to flee.

That driver called 911 and stayed with the victim, who was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Between 18-20 years old
  • 5’10”
  • Medium build

He was wearing a black baseball cap, a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

“This is absolutely concerning to us. We have a number of leads that we’re pursuing and we’ll follow those to the fullest,” said Chartrand.
