Calgary first hosted an international film festival 15 years ago, back then 8-thousand moviegoers showed up.

The Calgary International Film Festival or CIFF has grown since then.

It now expects at least 30-thousand people to take part.

There are about 200 films scheduled to fun over the ten day festival which starts September 18th

Ciff received over 21-hundred submissions for this year's festival.

Programmers for the festival spend a lot of time researching and viewing all sorts of feature length and short films, as well as documentaries.

Brenda Lieberman says “sometimes it's got nothing to do with budget, or production value, or other times the film looks really great and you just know it's going to capture the right emotion from someone, and other times it's purely innovative storytelling and it can be absolutely anything.”
