Doors Open YYC is a chance to see behind the scenes at City of Calgary facilities.

One of the facilities open to the public was the Stampede Grandstand, which kicked things off with… what else… a pancake breakfast.

The Grandstand got its start in 1973, and tour groups were taken to the highest point called the Eye in the Sky where the races are called, then deep underground where performers prepare to go onstage.

“They also get an exclusive tour of the shoots, with the rodeo committee, and then they get to go back to the barns, where the chuck wagon horses live for the ten days of stampede, and again these are areas that no one really gets to see or get up close and personal with, so people who are fans of the Stampede really love to get that inside look at how we do what we do,” said Sky England, Calgary Stampede.

This is the fourth year the Stampede Grandstand has taken part in Doors Open YYC.

Last year, they had over 300 visitors see the structure over a two-day period.
