A Calgary mother is facing second-degree murder charges in connection to the death of her daughter at an intersection south of Saskatoon on Monday.

Police were called to reports of an altercation outside a vehicle at the intersection of Clarence Avenue South and Victor Road at about 8:00 p.m.

Lindey Sugar, 34, was found with a neck injury and was pronounced dead later in hospital.

Frances Rose Sugar, 50, of Calgary, was taken into custody following the incident and charged with second-degree murder.

RCMP spent the day Tuesday combing a field near the scene for evidence, which is about 10 kilometres from Saskatoon.

Police say Lindey Sugar had ties to both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Frances Sugar appeared in Saskatoon Provincial court on Wednesday morning.

An autopsy is also scheduled for Wednesday in Saskatoon.
