A Calgary woman has admitted that she fooled people into thinking she had a terminal disease and had lost her home to collect money and donations.

Jennifer Halford pleaded guilty to seven counts of fraud under $5,000 on Tuesday, admitting to a Calgary court that she posed as another person online.

She pretended that she was a cancer patient and a Fort McMurray evacuee with the goal of collecting money and donations for her own use.

Halford was arrested in May 2016.

She told police at the time that she didn’t mean to do it and the incident quickly went out of her control.

She is expected to be sentenced in April.
