Wanted: Campers and siblings affected by cancer, between the ages of 4 and 18 for a week of fun, excitement and laughter.
Camp Quality Alberta is a non-profit camp for children who have been affected in some way, shape or form by cancer. Volunteers spend all year organizing a week chalk full of out-of-this world activities for campers, at no cost to the family. Campers and their siblings enjoy everything from horse-back riding to laser tag and limo rides in just a few short days on the beautiful shores of Sylvan Lake. This year's theme is music.
What makes this program so special and unique is that each child is partnered up with a carefully screened adult volunteer called a "companion" who acts as friend and mentor. Over six days, they will share their camp experience and hopefully form a bond that lasts beyond camp and hopefully a lifetime. It's seen as another branch of support for those children who have had to mature beyond their years.
The Alberta camp is one of seven camps across the country. Camp Quality first began as a camp for children with cancer in Australia in 1983 and has since grown world-wide to several countries including Canada's seven locations.
Volunteer opportunities are also available.
