Canadian PGA golfer and Masters Champion Mike Weir will be in Calgary this summer to support the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Mike Weir’s Miracle Golf Drive for Kids will be held June 22 at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club.

The announcement was made this morning at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club, where Weir appeared via skype from Utah.

Kids and their parents, who have spent time at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, were also at Monday’s announcement.

When asked by one of the kids why he wanted to donated to children’s hospitals, Weir says it’s all about getting the treatment kids need.

“Kids like you are so cute and we want to make sure you’re healthy and you grow up to be strong healthy adults,” said Weir.

Fred Mattersdorfer, a father of a young boy, who is a patient at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, says he’s thankful for everything Weir is doing.

“To have his face there, and to see what he’s done as a professional, and what he gives back is quite remarkable, and my wife and I and my son are really appreciative of, “ said Mattersdorfer.

Shortly after Mattersdorfer’s son Will was born, he was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition that prevented him from swallowing and eating.

The team at the Alberta Children’s Hospital performed surgeries, installed feeding tubes, and taught his parents how to manage his feeds at home.

Today, Will eats everything on his plate and is a happy, healthy two-year-old with a real love for sports.

In 2007, The Mike Weir Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network set a goal to raise $10 million for Canadian pediatric healthcare.

Since then, the Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids has raised more than $4,788,000 to support innovative programs, state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking pediatric research at children’s hospitals across the country.

Registration for Mike Weir’s Miracle Golf Drive for Kids is now open.
