Strathmore RCMP has laid charges against a 21-year-old woman after a young boy was hit by a car while crossing in a marked crosswalk.

On January 20, police were called to the scene in front of Westmount Elementary School for a pedestrian-vehicle crash.

Officers at the scene discovered that a nine-year-old boy had been hit by a southbound truck inside the school zone.

The boy suffered minor injuries and was transported from the scene, but was released from hospital later that same day.

Police charged the driver of the truck with failing to yield to a pedestrian inside a crosswalk.

They say that neither alcohol nor drugs were considered factors in the crash.

Visibility was good, but the roadway was considered icy.

Police are reminding drivers to slow down in school zones and be mindful of road conditions while behind the wheel.
