The CPS Homicide Unit has now charged a man in connection with a fatal shooting that took place on Saturday night in the northeast community of Monterey Park.

At about 9 p.m. on August 22, police were called to the 7000 block of California Boulevard N.E. for reports of a shooting.

A witness had been driving in the area when they spotted a man lying on the ground outside a vehicle parked in a driveway.

As the witness looked on the man got up and attempted to drive away, but ended up hitting the witness' vehicle and falling back out of the car onto the ground.

Emergency crews rushed the man to hospital where he later died.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old David Quach.

On August 26, police formally charged Said Raed Abdulbaki, 20, with second degree murder.

Abdulbaki appeared in court on Thursday morning.
