Calgary police have now formally charged a man arrested in connection with a taxi cab robbery last week.

At about 1 a.m. on August 14, a cab driver picked up a man in the area of 17 Avenue and 47 Street S.E.

The cab drove only a few blocks when the passenger told him to pull over. At that point, the man pulled out a weapon, demanded money, and forced the driver out of the vehicle.

The driver got out and the man drove away with the cab.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Police soon found the car in the 5300 block of Hubalta Road S.E., but there was no sign of the suspect.

On August 21, police arrested and charged a 20-year-old man in connection with the incident.

Evan Thomas Trotchie has been charged with:

  • One count of robbery
  • Three counts of breach of probation

Trotchie is also facing additional charges of two counts of breach of probation, robbery, theft under $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, and three Traffic Safety Act offences.

He is expected to appear in court on August 28.
