Two people were transported to hospital following an early morning crash at the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 582, east of Didsbury,  that prompted an investigation into suspected impaired driving.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, RCMP from Olds, Sundre and Didsbury responded to the area following reports a westbound car failed to stop at the T-intersection and proceeded to catapult into a field.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, was located pinned under the car and required extrication. The man was removed and transported to hospital by ground ambulance.

A 29-year-old man, a passenger in the car, suffered significant injuries and was transported to a Calgary-area hospital by STARS Air Ambulance in serious condition.

A 23-year-old woman suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Charges against the unnamed driver are pending. According to RCMP, the man will face charges that include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and criminal negligence.
