Police are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in northeast Calgary Wednesday morning.

At about 7:40 a.m., EMS were called to the intersection of 4 Street and Huntstrom Drive N.E. for reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Luckily, crews were able to quickly attend to the scene because they were in the area attending to an unrelated call.

At the scene, crews found a 12-year-old boy that had been struck by a 2014 Dodge Journey minivan while he was crossing the road a painted crosswalk.

The boy was transported to hospital in serious condition with particular concern about head injuries.

The driver of the minivan, a 68-year-old man, remained at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the Calgary Police Traffic Unit. Police suspect vehicle speed was a factor in the crash and charges are pending against the driver.
