A seven-year-old boy died after he was pulled unconscious from Auburn Bay Lake on Friday and members of the community have started a fund raising campaign to help the family.

Emergency crews were called to the southeast lake at about 6:40 p.m. and transported the boy to the South Health Campus where he died from his injuries.

The lake was closed for a few days out of respect for the boy and his family and was reopened to the public on Sunday.

People in the community are still shocked by the boy’s death and have created a make-shift memorial near the lake.

Families have been bringing stuffed animals, cards and flowers to the memorial since the tragedy happened to honour the young boy, named Caleb Vinnai.

The group Auburn Bay Angels is asking people in the community to display red ribbons in Caleb’s memory.

Supporters have also set up a gofundme page called ‘Give from the Heart for Caleb’ to help the family with expenses.
