The Government of Alberta has taken action against a Calgary couple after they damaged an area of wetlands on their property by unauthorized landscaping.

An enforcement order has been given to Karamjit Johal and Baljit Johal after they hired a contractor to fill in a wetland without possessing the proper permits.

The workers then filled, graded, and leveled the wetland.

Officials say this work caused harm to the wetlands and aquatic environment.

As a result, officials have ordered the Johals to:

  • submit a complete wetlands restoration plan by June 1, 2015
  • implement the approved plan with a completion date of October 30, 2015
  • submit a written final report of the work undertaken to the Compliance Manager within 30 days of completion of the work required

The Government of Alberta use enforcement orders to remedy situations involving the unauthorized usage of public lands.
