The Calgary Police Service is going to start using courier services to deliver enforcement summonses.

Until recently, the CPS has been using Canada Post to issue summonses. However, recent instability between Canada Post and the CUPW and the threat of impending strike action has had the Service looking for other options.

On Monday, the CPS obtained a court order allowing the Service to use couriers while there is still the potential of a service disruption.

Due to the ongoing risk of potential disruption over the past two months, automated enforcement summonses have not been issued since mid-June. Now that an alternative mode of delivery has been approved, all of those tickets will be sent out.

This means that some people may be getting summonses for offences that occurred up to two months ago. Legally, summonses can be issued up to six months after a traffic violation.

Anyone receiving a summons will, as with any summons, be able to challenge it. Details will be on the reverse of the ticket.
