A 68-year-old woman is dead after the car she was driving crossed the centre line and collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck along the Trans-Canada Highway.

The crash occurred Saturday afternoon just after 4:00 p.m. approximately one kilometre west of the town of Golden, B.C.

The woman received life threatening injuries in the collision. Emergency crews attempted to transport the woman by helicopter to the Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital but she succumbed to her injuries mid-trip.

The two occupants of the pickup truck received non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance.

An investigation into the fatal crash is underway. According to RCMP traffic services, weather and road conditions are not believed to be contributing factors to the collision.

The investigation and clean-up effort following the crash caused the closure of a portion of the Trans-Canada Highway for nearly seven hours.
