Crews with the City of Calgary are being kept busy around the clock as cold temperatures are continuing to burst water pipes in many different areas.

More pipes burst overnight, at the Bay Building downtown, SAIT, and at Varsity Drive and Shaganappi Trail N.W.

There are few details about those incidents, but they are the latest issues crews have been dealing with during this frigid cold snap.

On Monday, a burst sprinkler pipe shut down the Safeway grocery store in Brentwood for several hours.

Water from that pipe ended up damaging the ceiling and one of the entrances, running out into the parking lot and neighbouring shopping centre.

A brand new school in northwest Calgary was also a victim of a burst water pipe earlier on Monday.

A radiator on the third floor of Robert Thirsk High School burst, causing significant damage to portions on all three floors.

The school only opened this past fall.

Classes were cancelled for the day, but they are expected to resume on Tuesday with the exception being a few of the affected classrooms.

There were water issues in the downtown core as well, with an office tower housing many of Calgary’s charitable organizations being shut down due to a burst pipe.

The building was reopened at about 10:30 a.m., and workers are expected to return on Tuesday.

Crews are continuing to work throughout the city, and are expected to be dealing with more calls now that the weather is expected to warm up.
