With a ransom deadline looming, press freedom organizations say they remain deeply concerned about the safety of an Alberta journalist kidnapped in Somalia.

27-year-old Journalist Amanda Lindhout was abducted just over two months ago near the Somalian capital of Mogadishu.

Lindhout, Brennan, their Somali driver and two guards were reportedly abducted at gunpoint while travelling south of Somalia's war-torn capital on their way to do a story on war refugees.

The kidnappers have said they will kill Lindhout and Brennan if a $2.5 million dollar ransom is not paid by next Tuesday.

The committee to protect journalists says it's very worried about her safety and calls upon those holding them to release them immediately.

Foreign Affairs Canada says they are pursuing all appropriate channels to secure the release of both journalists.

The Canadian government has been advising against all travel in Somalia.
