A jury is deliberating the fate of a 52-year-old man accused of killing a Calgary woman in 2001.

Barry David Brown, 52, has been on trial for the past month and is accused of killing Corinne Belanger, 37, on April 16, 2001.

Belanger was a Calgary mother of one and was found shot to death in her northeast home.

The jury of six men and six women has more than a month's worth of evidence to pour over including three separate interviews with police.

Brown told police he was importing guns illegally and sold one to a friend of Belanger's the night of the murder.

He says that explains how his DNA could be found on recovered pieces of the murder weapon and he insists he is not the killer.

Brown was not charged with Belanger's murder until 2010.

The crown says Brown killed Belanger out of loyalty to his best friend who was Belanger's common law husband. The pair was in the middle of a separation and custody battle at the time of Belanger’s death.
