Traffic is still being impacted by a rock slide that forced the closure of part of the Trans-Canada Highway through Yoho National Park last week.

The slide covered the roadway about 16 kilometers west of Field and was triggered by crews who were drilling holes for explosives in the area on Monday, October 24.

Road and geotechnical crews have been working to clear the 10,000 cubic metres of debris from the road and stabilize the rock face ever since.

A single lane of alternating traffic was opened on Thursday night and paving got underway on Sunday.

On Monday, officials announced that there would be heavy congestion and delays of up to an hour until Wednesday as longer road closures would be required for rock blasting to secure the rock face and prepare the highway for two-way traffic.

An alternate route is available via Highway 95 and Highway 93S to motorists who wish to avoid the congestion.
