Police have now identified the victim of a weekend homicide in Calgary's Mission neighbourhood.

They say Susan Rae Elko, 39, died as a result of a stabbing.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to a home in the 200 block of Holy Cross Lane S.W.

They had received several calls to 911 saying that a woman had been stabbed.

Officers at the scene found the body of a woman.

A short time later, a man was arrested for questioning about the incident.

Scott Monrow Ferguson, 24, has been charged with the murder of the woman.

Police say Ferguson and the victim were in a relationship and this is being considered a domestic-related homicide.

The murder weapon has not yet been recovered and divers spent the day searching the Elbow River.

Elko's death is Calgary's 26th murder of 2014.
