Authorities in Rocky View County say that a dog that mauled an 18-month-old boy in a small community east of Calgary last month has now been euthanized.

On January 28, Rocky View County fire crews responded to a call of a dog attack involving a child at a home in Langdon.

When they arrived, EMS found that the toddler had suffered injuries to his face and upper torso. He was taken to the Alberta Children's Hospital for treatment.

The dog, confirmed to be pit bull by Rocky View County officials, belonged to some friends of the boy's family.

The animal was quarantined following the incident to check for any trace of rabies.

Following that period, the dog's owners gave the animal up to be euthanized and has since been charged under the Animal Control Bylaw.
