Two dogs involved in a brutal attack on a Calgary woman will likely be put down.

"Given the nature of the injuries, I expect the dogs will be destroyed," says Bill Bruce the director of Animal & Bylaw Services.

On Sunday evening, a 35-year-old woman turned up at hospital with bites to her face and legs. Her nose was essentially ripped off.

Details of the attack have been hard to confirm because the woman ended up having two surgeries to repair the damage.

Officials now believe the attack happened at a home in Applewood and involved two pit bull type dogs. "The victim walked into a residence. The female victim was talking to the dog owners… and the dog burst out of the house. One bit her on the leg. She went down and it bit her in the face," says Bruce.

The dogs have been impounded and will remain that way until a dangerous dog hearing is complete.

The fine for a serious dog bite is $1,500.
