One of Boeing’s most modern birds is scheduled to drop onto the runway at the Calgary International Airport on Tuesday night and it will be the first time travellers here will board the Dreamliner to London.

British Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner departed London on Tuesday morning and is scheduled to arrive in Calgary at about 8:00 p.m.

Calgary is just the second city in the country to receive the service. British Airways began daily service from Toronto to London last year.

There are three cabin classes to choose from and the company says cabins are pressurized at 2000 feet lower than other aircraft, which should help reduce the effects of jet lag for some passengers.

The innovative aircraft can carry about 214 passengers and boasts more comfortable seating and extensive entertainment options.

Travellers in the Club World cabin have access to full-flat beds and a snack bar that stays open throughout the flight.

In addition, each seat has a TV screen and passengers can view more than 700 hours of content and can play games with others on the flight through an in-seat chat system.

"Canada is an increasingly important market for British Airways,” said Sean Doyle, EVP Americas for British Airways.  “I know our Canadian customers will enjoy the new features of this exceptional aircraft and will arrive in London ready to work or tour, or connect on to one of the many exciting destinations in Europe, Asia and Africa."

“YYC is pleased to be the first in Western Canada to welcome British Airways’ 787 Dreamliner from London to Calgary,” said Stephan Poirier, Senior Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “As a growing international hub, YYC is continually adding and improving its route network to connect people and prosperity.”

British Airways is based at London Heathrow and has a fleet of more than 280 aircraft.
