Calgary drivers are being reminded once again to take extra caution during their drive in to work on Wednesday after a dump of snow made conditions on area highways treacherous.

Side streets and ramps are still very icy, so the City of Calgary is putting down a salt, sand, and calcium chloride mix in an attempt to make conditions safer for drivers.

The calcium chloride is used to keep ice from building up, but crews do have a hard time with side streets because they need to go over those areas several times before they're clear.

Police have issued several warnings for drivers and motorists should slow down and drive to the conditions.

Even some driving experts are offering their advice to help drivers.

"You'll get ice building up any place where there's braking or accelerating - so before curves, after curves, intersections, any place like that, it's going be a little bit more slippery on a day like today, So give yourself lots of time to slow down ahead of time," says Ron Wilson with the Alberta Motor Association.

Police say there have been 232 crashes since Tuesday at 3 a.m.

During the morning commute, there were another 20 crashes reported to police.

The afternoon commute is expected to be easier, but city crews and the police remind drivers that it is winter and they should not let their guard down.

Weather specialist Kelsey McEwen says that temperatures will likely reach the plus side by the weekend.

On Thursday, temperatures are expected to reach about -2 because of some warm, gusty, westerly winds.
