The fate of the Eamon’s building was up for discussion Friday at the city hall and council has decided if someone doesn't want it by February 1, 2015 it will be sold or destroyed.

The city bought the building in 2012 and moved the entire building and sign.  The building is in storage; the sign has already been restored and is now part of the Tuscany LRT station.

The city is trying to lease tjhe building and put it back on the original site.

There were five inquiries but no one has followed through with any serious proposals or offers.

The city administration had recommended that the Eamon’s building should stay in storage for one more year, until October 31, 2015 with the hopes someone might come forward. Currently it costs the city $1,100 a month to store the building.

However, councillor Ward Sutherland didn't want to wait another year and pay another year's worth of storage fees.

He made a motion that the building be sold or destroyed by February 1, 2015.  Council has agreed.

So far the city has spent $225,000 to move and store the Eamon’s building.

On the City of Calgary website the building is described as a "custom designed, one storey, wood frame structure that was built in 1952. It has a stucco exterior highlighted with decorative ‘speed lines’.  Two service bays flank the central office and reception area.”
