A troupe of elves went through a training procedure ahead of this year’s Magic of Christmas event, a popular charity that aims to make sure everyone has a happy holiday.

More than a thousand people are volunteering for the massive toy drive to deliver gifts to Calgarians in need over the holidays.

The group hopes to help out at least 700 families this year.

“We want to make sure that they know there are people out there that care about them. We try to reach as many people as we can to let them know, especially at a time like the holiday season which can be especially stressful for people,” said Clayton Busher, one of the organizers.

The Magic of Christmas has been operating for about 34 years.

The number of volunteers is up this year almost 20 percent.
